FAQ

Discover answers to common questions about our essential oil perfumes and castile liquid soaps — ingredients, performance, storage, shipping, and our commitment to natural, cruelty-free skincare.

Our Ingredients & Craftsmanship

What are your essential oil perfumes made from?

Our perfumes are blended from 100% pure essential oils — Frankincense (Boswellia Serrata), Myrrh (Commiphora Myrrha), and Cedarwood (Cedrus Deodara) — carried in organic cold-pressed Jojoba oil. Completely alcohol-free. No synthetic fragrance, no fillers. The Luxury variant also includes certified organic Sandalwood Mysore (Santalum Album) — one of the rarest and most prized base notes in natural perfumery.

Do you offer different scent variants?

Yes. We offer three scent variants, each available in both roll-on and dropper formats, and in Jojoba carrier oil: the Classic (Frankincense, Myrrh & Cedarwood), the Summer (Frankincense, Myrrh & Vanilla — replacing Cedarwood with warm, sweet Vanilla for a softer, more resinous blend), and the Luxury (Frankincense, Myrrh, Cedarwood & Sandalwood Mysore — adding rare Mysore Sandalwood for an exotic, woody depth). Vanilla is not an add-on to the Classic — it is its own distinct Summer variant.

What are your castile liquid soaps made from?

Our soaps are handcrafted from certified organic plant oils — olive oil, coconut oil, and/or shea butter depending on the variant — combined with distilled water and a dual-lye system (potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide). Both lye agents fully react during saponification and are not present in the finished product. Every batch is superfatted at 5%, meaning a portion of the oils remains unsaponified and stays on your skin after rinsing for extra nourishment. No synthetic fragrances, colorants, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, or artificial preservatives. 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Is lye (sodium/potassium hydroxide) safe in soap?

Yes. Lye is a necessary part of the soap-making process — it reacts with oils in a chemical process called saponification. We use a dual-lye process: KOH (Potassium Hydroxide) creates the liquid soap base, while NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) adds structure and stability. Both are fully consumed in the reaction and are not present in the finished product. What remains are the gentle, skin-safe salts of the original plant oils.

What does superfatted mean?

Superfatting means a percentage of the oils in the soap are intentionally left unsaponified — they don't turn into soap. Instead, they remain as free oils that stay on your skin after rinsing, providing a nourishing buffer without feeling greasy. All our soaps are formulated at 5% superfat.

Why does my soap look cloudy?

Completely normal. Natural castile soap without synthetic stabilisers can appear cloudy or slightly opaque — this is a sign of purity, not a defect. Give the bottle a gentle shake before use.

Product Performance

How long do your perfumes last on skin?

Typically 4–6 hours, varying by skin type, hydration level, and application area. Pulse points (wrists, neck, inner elbow) extend longevity. Because our perfumes are oil-based and alcohol-free, they tend to stay closer to the skin — a more intimate, personal scent experience rather than a room-filling projection.

Does my castile soap lather well?

Yes — variants containing coconut oil produce a rich, creamy lather. Our Pure Coconut Oil soap produces the most abundant lather of any single-oil natural soap — and uniquely, it's one of the only natural soaps that lathers in salt water. Pure olive oil soap lathers more gently and subtly, which is normal and preferred for very sensitive skin. All variants cleanse effectively regardless of lather volume.

Can I use your perfumes on sensitive skin?

Our perfumes are made with natural essential oils, which are potent by nature. We always recommend a patch test before full application — apply a small amount to the inner wrist and wait 24 hours. If you have known sensitivities to any of our listed botanicals, please review the full ingredient list on the product page or contact us before ordering.
