Why We're Evolving Our Triple Oil Castile Soap Formula
Some changes are worth waiting for. When the last batch of our current Triple Oil Castile Liquid Soap runs out, we'll be introducing a refined formulation — and we want to tell you exactly why.
Where We Started: The 33/33/33 Formula
Our original Triple Oil Castile Liquid Soap was built on equal parts: 33% olive oil, 33% coconut oil, and 33% shea butter. It was a balanced starting point — each oil pulling its weight, none dominating. For a first batch, it worked beautifully.
But as we used it, tested it, and listened to feedback, a clearer picture emerged of what this soap could become.
What's Changing: The New 40/20/40 Formula
The next version will be: 40% olive oil, 20% coconut oil, 40% shea butter.
That's a meaningful shift — and every percentage point is intentional.
Why More Olive Oil (40%)
Olive oil is the backbone of true Castile soap. It's deeply moisturising, rich in oleic acid, and exceptionally gentle — which is why it's been used in soap-making for centuries. Increasing it to 40% gives the soap a richer, creamier lather and makes it more suitable for sensitive and dry skin. It also improves the soap's conditioning properties, meaning your skin feels softer after washing, not stripped.
Why Less Coconut Oil (20%)
Coconut oil is a powerful cleanser — almost too powerful. It's high in lauric acid, which creates excellent lather and foam, but at higher concentrations it can be drying, especially for people with sensitive skin or those who wash their hands frequently. Bringing it down to 20% keeps the lather you love while removing the harshness you don't.
Think of it as dialling the cleansing power to exactly where it needs to be — effective, but never aggressive.
Why More Shea Butter (40%)
Shea butter is where the real luxury lives. It's packed with fatty acids and vitamins A and E, and it forms a protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture long after you've rinsed. Raising it to 40% makes this soap genuinely nourishing — not just cleansing. It's the difference between a soap that cleans your hands and one that also takes care of them.
For anyone who washes their hands often — parents, cooks, healthcare workers — this matters a lot.
The Result
The new formula is gentler, richer, and more moisturising than its predecessor. It's still the same plant-based, organic Castile soap you know — just refined. Same 500ml pump bottle, same clean ingredients, better balance.
We're not changing it because something was wrong. We're changing it because we learned something, and we think you deserve the best version we can make.
The transition will happen naturally — once the current stock runs out, the new formula takes over. No fanfare, no price change. Just a better soap.
